Chronicles of Skin is a game of doodling and storytelling. So why cards?
Since Game Chef, I’ve had a chance to play Chronicles of Skin with some awesome, enthusiastic gamers, and everyone agreed that the old icons need a reboot.
When you set up the game you use icons to create the flags for two cultures on the brink of civil war. For the next two hours the players use these icons to shape their story as they record the symbols on a kind of narrative map.
I used cards to seed ideas (rather than dice) because I wanted something informal. What’s more laid back than a bit of doodling and cards? All you need is a big dog, a fireplace and a glass of sherry to complete the picture. It was a short skip from a standard deck to a custom deck.
